A DESTInation for photography
Sunset from Gimsøya
Over the past couple of decades, Lofoten has become a highly sought-out spot for travel and landscape photographers—I include myself among them—and they visit in every season. In the winter, photographers come to capture the aurora borealis and the stark landscape, though the jagged peaks are often inaccessible to all but experienced mountaineers and ice-climbers. In the summer months, the peaks offer spectacular hiking trails, and the beaches, a variety of wildlife. On this trip, I can honestly say that I crossed paths with more dedicated photographers than in any other place I’ve visited in the world.
Local adventure and landscape photographer Cody Duncan has written a great series called A Photography Guide to Seasons on Lofoten, offering an insider’s look at strategically capturing the beauty of the archipelago in each season. I have to say, the Winter edition of this book was invaluable to me in planning and executing my trip.
