Because of the incredibly steep and jagged terrain, many small villages are completely isolated by land, being connected to the rest of society only by boat.  In the tiny village of Vindstad (with only about a dozen buildings), the residents’ mailboxes reside out on the pier where they can be easily accessed by the daily ferry.
